Blog Post 2

With only four days before departure, I am riddled with questions. Will this part of France be as beautiful as it looks on TV? Will my spending hours on a bike over the last few months pay off? Will the baguettes be the best ever? Will this trip be the most awesome cycling adventure I’ve ever had? Will the passenger next to me on the flight to Geneva fart and snore the whole way? Yes, I’m riddled with questions. But, answers will start coming soon!

As an experienced traveler, I usually start preparing for these types of trips weeks in advance. I’m not sure what happened for this trip, but with only four days before we leave, all I have pulled out is my passport, an airplane seat cushion and a tube of DZNuts. I’m not sure what this says about my priorities. These personal items are nicely laid out on a bed waiting to be joined by jerseys, bibs, gloves, arm warmers and more DZNuts. The necessary bike parts - seat, pedals, pump, helmet, etc.,- don’t make it upstairs to the bedroom. After all, they are equipment and not “personal”. Although I expect the seat cushion, bibs, bike seat and DZNuts do share a common purpose and function: to keep me a happy and comfortable cyclist. It’s good to know your priorities.

So, with less than four days before the first flight, I had better get packing. I want the equipment and personal items to get to know each other; preferably in my suitcase.
